Steadying the ship: Kelly Bayer Rosmarin looks to change course at Optus
In her first in-depth interview since the Optus cyberattack, CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin tells Capital Brief she's ready to move on.
As the dust settled on an historic cyberattack affecting the sensitive details of nearly 10 million Australians, Optus chief executive Kelly Bayer Rosmarin put in a bulk order for David Marquet’s book Turn the Ship Around!
She wanted her executives to read this true story of a former US Navy Captain to help prepare them for the challenges ahead.
“They were the worst performing submarine and they became the best performing one,” Bayer Rosmarin tells Capital Brief in a video interview from Optus’ Macquarie Park campus in Sydney. Marquet’s book recounts his experience transforming the once-languishing USS Santa Fe. He lays out his leadership techniques to fix poor performance in high stress environments.
“That level of ambition, of saying … just because this is your reality today, it doesn't mean you can't imagine something amazing,” Bayer Rosmarin says. “I love teams that have real ambition.”
