Jun Bei Liu’s decision to leave Tribeca after 20 years to set up her own shop made headlines in the funds management world for many reasons.

Not only was a top-ranked fundie making a move, but she was also taking her fund with her — an almost unprecedented situation. Adding to the intrigue, her business partner in this new venture is also her life partner: Jason Todd, another high-profile figure in the industry.

Needless to say, the interest is intense. Liu’s response is characteristically pragmatic: there will be both good and bad coverage, but her job remains the same — to deliver performance. It’s what she has done since taking over the $1.5 billion Alpha Plus fund in 2019 and what she has continued to do under her own Ten Cap banner over the past three months.

“It was a very unusual outcome and extremely rare in funds management — so we are absolutely thrilled,” Liu told Capital Brief for our Past Performance series. A transcript of the interview appears below.
