The global exchanges jostling for Australia's next gen companies
As startups look to list overseas and market concentration creeps in, Canada's TSX and America's CBOE are finding new ways to court the next generation of Australian companies.
It's a long way from home but the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) now has a Sydney footprint. The expansion might seem unusual but it marks the growing opportunity exchanges see in dual listings — and the creeping concentration at the top end of the market.
TSX’s foray into Australia comes at the same time it pushes staff into Brazil, Israel, the UK, Australia as well as Chicago, LA and Dallas.
With 22 ASX companies already dual-listed in Toronto, TSX chief commercial officer Robert Peterman believes the crossover between markets will be necessary to meet the demands of the new economy.
“We believe that the need for access to capital will grow especially for the mining sector as we work through the energy transition,” Peterman said as he wrapped up a week-long visit to Australia.
