'These things are not the same': Why Nanuk's Tom King thinks it's time to retire ESG

Nanuk Asset Management invests in the companies at the forefront of the global economic transition in a resource-constrained world. Just don't call it an ESG manager.

Nanuk Investment Management is one of those fund managers that was investing sustainably before ESG investing became a thing.

Now, Nanuk is locked into a constant game of explaining why it believes ESG is an inappropriate term to describe its investing approach.

Under the premise that overpopulation, environmental and resource constraints mean the world economy must fundamentally change, the Sydney-based fund manager scours global equities markets for the gems that have the best prospects for profitability in the global net zero transition.

This approach has led the firm into companies as diverse as healthcare technology and diagnostics, industrial decarbonisation using carbon capture and storage, and solid state hardware producers.
