TikTok’s Australian workforce grew by a third in 12 months
The headcount expansion underscores a period of significant growth and investment by TikTok in its Australian operation over the decade since the app’s 2016 launch.
TikTok’s Australian headcount is on pace to hit 1,000 within the next 12 months, as the video platform continues to expand its local workforce to support rising popularity and commercial growth.
The ByteDance-owned video platform had 777 employees in Australia at the end of the 2024 calendar year, up from “over 500” in July that year, according to a mix of regulatory and government filings lodged within the last year.
That number is now believed to be even higher, following a sustained period of recruitment during the first half of 2025.
TikTok’s Australian workforce is larger than the platform’s most recent filing, according to a person familiar with the platform’s local operations who is not authorised to speak publicly.
