Apple and Google will argue that Epic Games' allegations that both tech giants have breached Australian legislation are "vague and embarrassing" when the companies kick off 16 weeks of court hearings from Monday, in the competition law trial of the year.

The comments have been set out by Apple and Google's respective legal counsel in their defence documents, seen by Capital Brief.

Those teams are led by Clayton Utz's Bruce Lloyd for Apple and Corrs Chambers Westgarth's Simon Johnson for Google. Epic has secured Allens chair Fiona Crosbie in a true who's who of Australian competition law.

The hearings, which start this week, will also include class action claims from consumers and developers against Google and Apple alleging restrictive trade practices and consumer harm.
