Why this fundie wants you to argue with him

If you truly believe in a business, you should be able fight for it, says ECP's Jared Pohl.

How did you get into investing and what was your first investment?

I would love to tell you that I knew I wanted to do this job from a young age, but that wasn’t the case. I have, however, always been reasonably entrepreneurial. Growing up I had a number of side hustles which generated some income for me. I came to investing a bit later in life when I started working at Hyperion Asset Management for my father [co-founder Manny Pohl].

Up until that point, I’d made some investments in LICs my father was involved in as well as a few companies like Billabong and Telstra.

But coming into Hyperion was like being thrown in the deep end, I really had to figure things out as I went, reading books and articles I found on the internet so I felt like I knew what I was talking about when I asked questions of the team. That process of discovery really solidified my passion for investing.
