The news: Copper-focused mining firm 29Metals has announced the departure of managing director and CEO Peter Albert next year.

The numbers: The transition plan will see Albert leave the company on 30 April 2024, having taken up the role in July 2021.

The context: The announcement comes as the ASX-listed miner charts its recovery plan for its Capricorn copper mine in Queensland. The company reported seven-metre flooding at the mine in March following an extreme weather event, in what Albert said was the highest rainfall ever recorded at the site since records began 130 years ago.

What they said: 29Metals chair Owen Hegarty said in a statement: "Peter's contribution cannot be understated — he led 29Metals through its formation and successful IPO, the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic and external market conditions over the past two years, and then the extreme weather event at Capricorn Copper this year."
