The news: Drug maker AFT Pharmaceuticals has partnered with US pharmaceutical manufacturer Microsize to support the supply of AFT's Maxigesic Rapid medicine in numerous markets including the US and the UK.

The numbers: AFT's Maxigesic Rapid is a pain relief drug that combines paracetamol and ibuprofen, with a patent until 2039.

The context: The supply agreement of micronised active pharmaceutical ingredients, critical components of Maxigesic Rapid, will assist AFT to source sufficient materials for its fast-dissolving tablet formulation.

AFT also announced additional manufacturing agreements with separate companies in Canada and Europe to support the launch of its first aid cream Crystaderm in China. The product launch, which will be AFT's first in the Chinese market, is planned for later in 2024.

Elsewhere, AFT recently expanded its co-operation with Hikma Pharmaceuticals to extend the license for its intravenous pain relief medicine Maxigesic/Combogesic IV to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan. Meanwhile, AFT's UK affiliate has made its first launches into the UK, and affiliates in Canada and the US have recently be formed to support product launches in those markets this calendar year.

AFT is dual-listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and New Zealand's Exchange.

What they said: AFT managing director Hartley Atkinson said: "We are very pleased to work with Microsize which has considerable expertise in the micronization technology that is crucial for the new rapid release Maxigesic/Combogesic formulation".

Microsize CEO TJ Higley said: "We are excited to have been chosen as the commercial partner to supply the blended/micronized drug product intermediate for AFT".

"The collaboration between our companies since the early dates of formulation development through clinical batches has been nothing short of spectacular and we look forward to continued expansion of this relationship", he said.
