AG appoints Raelene Sharp as Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions
The news: Victorian barrister Raelene Sharp has been appointed as the Commonwealth's Director of Public Prosecutions.
The numbers: The five-year appointment will begin on 4 December 2023, with outgoing CDPP Sarah McNaughton to become a NSW Supreme Court Judge.
The context: Sharp has been a barrister on the Victorian Bar since 2010 and was made senior counsel in 2022. She has also worked with the Office of the Special Investigator and the then Australian Crime Commission.
What they said: "Ms Sharp has a strong criminal law practice, appearing for the CDPP in many complex and sensitive cases," Attorney General Mark Dreyfus said in a media release.
"I congratulate Ms Sharp on her appointment and thank her for taking on this important role."
