AGL boss Damien Nicks to chair Energy Council

The news: The Australian Energy Council has named AGL chief executive Damien Nicks as its new chair.

The context: EDL boss James Harman will be the new deputy chair of the peak body, which represents electricity and downstream natural gas businesses. The pair replace EnergyAustralia's Mark Collette and Origin boss Frank Calabria, who will both remain on the board. Snowy Hydro and CS Energy bosses Dennis Barnes and Darren Busine will also join the board.

What they said: "We are pleased to have two highly regarded energy executives lead our Board at a time of major transitional change for the sector," Council chief executive Sarah McNamara said in a statement. "Through their extensive experience, Damien and James will be able to make valuable contributions to the work of our members who are at the forefront of the energy transformation."
