Agtech firms partner to offer ‘virtual twins’ of Tassie farms
The news: Agtech firm Agronomeye has joined hands with technology partnership Virtual TAS to offer Tasmanian farmers ‘virtual twins’ of their individual properties.
The numbers: Agronomeye has signed a 10-year agreement to get exclusive access to Virtual TAS’s laser-based remote sensing technology LiDAR data, to build digital twins of individual farms. Tasmanian farmers will be able to sign up for Agronemeye’s AgTwin platform from mid-2024.
The context: The partners believe the AgTwin platform represents a major step change in the way farmers manage their land, enabling them to measure the impacts of on-farm decisions.
The platform uses Virtual TAS’s LiDAR data as the foundation for farm scale modelling, with a number of analytical layers such as water flow modelling and tree canopy information, as well as data from sources ranging from satellites to weather stations and soil sensors. Agronomeye raised $3.5 million funding in 2022 from investors that included Canva co-founder Cameron Adams and SiteMinder co-founder Mike Ford.
Virtual TAS is a joint venture between 42-24 and Enzen Australia, a global knowledge enterprise specialising in energy and water.
