The news: Air New Zealand has dismissed chief corporate affairs officer Mat Bolland as part of a wider review of costs.

The numbers: Bolland joined the airline in May 2021 and will leave on 31 July. Chief sustainability officer Kiri Hannifin will take on the role along with her current role from 24 June.

The context: Air NZ CEO Greg Foran said the economic challenges faced by the airline have led to an extensive review of costs, requiring the company to make some difficult decisions.

New Zealand’s flagship carrier had downgraded its earnings guidance in April amid a continued softening in revenue due to subdued domestic demand and competitive pricing pressures on international routes.
