Alphabet unveils AI model Gemini
The news: Google owner Alphabet has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, which it says can process information in audio, text and video form, and will be used in data centres, mobile devices and more.
Called Gemini, part of the AI model has been added to Alphabet's AI assistant Bard. More will be added next year.
The context: Since OpenAI released ChatGPT about 12 months ago, Alphabet has been trying to produce a comparable effort. Alphabet will have three versions of Gemini, designed for different levels of processing power.
What they said: "This new era of models represents one of the biggest science and engineering efforts we’ve undertaken as a company," said Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
