The news: ASX-listed smash repairer AMA Group has announced its former chief operating officer Mathew Cooper as its new chief executive.

He joined in 2021 having worked at Bapcor, Amcor, General Motors, Metcash and Deloitte.

The numbers: Cooper will be paid a salary of $695,000, with the opportunity to earn more through incentives.

The context: Cooper replaces Carl Bizon, who retired after two years in the position.

This is not the only recent leadership change of late for AMA Group. Chair Caroline Waldron has only been in her role for several months, since the retirement of Anthony Day.

Waldron said Cooper had led group operations through a challenging period. Smash repairers had fewer customers during the pandemic as people travelled less.

What they said: "I look forward to working with the board and the broader team as we continue to evolve as a customer-centric business to deliver quality solutions and experiences for our customers. I look forward to continuing to enhance our customer relationships, to ensure we are their repairer of choice," Cooper said.
