The news: ANZ has announced a triple change to its senior leadership team, including the appointment of new chief risk officer Christine Palmer who joins from Santander UK.

HSBC executive Donald Patra will join ANZ as its new chief information officer, while McKinsey senior partner Pedro Rodeia has been picked as group executive for Australia retail.

The context: Palmer has served as Santander UK's CRO since 2020, having previously held senior risk and leadership roles at Aldermore Group, ING and Ernst & Young, as well as 14 years at the Royal Bank of Scotland/Natwest.

Patra, who worked with ANZ chief executive Nuno Matos at HSBC, most recently served as the bank's CIO for UK and Europe. He has spent more than two decades with HSBC, holding CIO roles across Asia, the Americas and Europe.

Rodeia is currently senior partner at McKinsey. He was previously the consultancy's global banking practice co-leader, working with banks for more than 30 years, including Australian banks for the past 15 years.

Palmer will join ANZ on 1 December, Patra on 24 November, and Rodeia on 17 November, and all three will be based in Melbourne. The appointments remain subject to regulatory approvals.

What they said: "I am very pleased to appoint three world-class executives to these critical roles," said Matos.

"The deep experience they each bring will ensure ANZ will deliver better outcomes for our customers, further strengthen our risk management capabilities and continue to build best-in-class technology capabilities for our customers and people."
