ANZ brings forward incoming CEO’s start date

The news: Banking major ANZ has brought forward the start date of its incoming CEO Nuno Matos to 12 May from the earlier date of 2 July.

The numbers: ANZ said Shayne Elliott will continue as CEO until 11 May and will provide handover support until 30 September. Matos was announced in December as the incoming CEO and was previously set to take up his role in July.

The context: ANZ Group Chairman Paul O’Sullivan said in a statement that Matos had secured an early release from commitments with his previous employer. He will also be appointed as executive director on the boards of ANZ Group Holdings and ANZ Banking Group Limited from 12 May. Matos joins from HSBC where he was most recently CEO of Wealth and Personal Banking.
