ANZ retail business lead Maile Carnegie to retire

The news: ANZ's retail business head Maile Carnegie will retire from the role on 1 July after a nine year executive career with the bank.

The context: Suncorp Bank chief executive Bruce Rush has been appointed as acting group executive Australia retail and Suncorp Bank while a formal replacement is found.

Carnegie will help “assist with a comprehensive transition through July”, according to the bank.

Maile Carnegie joined ANZ as its group executive digital banking in 2016 overseeing improvements to the customer experience and group responsibility for marketing. She then moved to the lead of the retail business in 2022.

Carnegie is also a former managing director for Australia and New Zealand at Google and at Proctor & Gamble.

What they said: ANZ chief executive Nuno Matos said “when I joined ANZ last month Maile informed me of her desire to transition to a non-executive career outside the bank”.

“I wish to extend my appreciation for her efforts in supporting my early days as CEO. On behalf of everyone at ANZ, I wish her well with the next phase of her career and thank her for all her efforts.”
