The news: Apple unveiled a sweeping redesign of its software at its Worldwide Developers Conference but disappointed investors with only modest AI updates and no sign of its delayed Siri overhaul. Its shares fell 1.21%.

The software redesign, called Liquid Glass, features transparent menus and a glassy look across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro.

Image generation via ChatGPT was added to Apple’s Image Playground. Apple said user data would not be shared with OpenAI without permission. Operating systems have been renamed by year, launching as iOS 26, watchOS 26, visionOS 26 and macOS 26 Tahoe. Apple shares fell 1.2% after the announcements.

The company also said it is opening its on-device Apple Intelligence foundation model to third-party developers and has introduced features including live call translation, call screening, AI-powered Workout Buddy and enhanced multitasking on iPad.

The context: But Apple did not include the Siri overhaul it announced in 2024, which it had postponed in March and said would not be ready until later this year.

The numbers: Apple shares closed 1.21% lower after the announcement, but were trading 0.04% higher in after hours trading.
