ASX shares to begin higher in eventful data week

The news: The only way is up on the Australian sharemarket on Monday after a positive lead from ASX 200 futures and Friday's Wall Street trading.

The numbers: The ASX 200 futures index was higher by 15 points, or 0.21%, to 7079 points. There was shortened trading in the US on Friday due to Thanksgiving and the S&P 500 closed essentially unchanged (4,559.34 points). The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 117.12 points, or 0.33%, to 35,390.15. The technology-focused Nasdaq dropped 15.00 points, or 0.11%, to 14,250.86.

The context: The Australian Bureau of Statistics will deliver a couple of notable releases for investors this week. The bureau will on Tuesday publish retail sales data for October, and inflation data for the same month on Wednesday. On Thursday, investors will look to US inflation indicators for October and Chinese economic data.
