The news: Auckland Airport has announced chair Patrick Strange will retire in October and will be replaced with long-time director Julia Hoare.

The numbers: Strange has been on the board of New Zealand’s biggest airport since 2015, and served as its chair since 2018. His replacement has been on the board since 2017.

The context: Strange said his decision to step down was in line with the ASX and NZX-listed company’s policy that directors serve for a maximum of nine years. His retirement will take effect from the close of the annual shareholder meeting in October.

His successor Hoare is currently chair of the Port of Tauranga and an independent director on the boards of Meridian Energy and Comvita.
