The news: Australia and the United Kingdom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at further unlocking superannuation and pension capital investment between the two countries.

The context: Under the investment partnership agreement, both countries will support smoother capital flows between superannuation and pension funds to drive economic growth.

The agreement focuses on policy dialogue and knowledge sharing, limiting barriers to cross‑border investment, strengthening investment settings and building networks to facilitate investment opportunities that benefit members in both countries.

The MoU was signed by UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers at the G20 meeting in Washington DC.

Chalmers said the agreement would give both countries more opportunities in shared interests like housing, renewable energy, infrastructure and venture capital, while enabling structured engagement between Australian super funds and the Sterling 20 through joint missions.
