Australian Border Force orders two more patrol boats from Austal for $136m
The news: Austal has received a $136 million order for two additional Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats for the Australian Border Force (ABF).
The context: The contract extension takes the total number of Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats being delivered to the ABF to six. This is on top of the 10 vessels that have been delivered to the Royal Australian Navy.
Eight of the original Cape-class patrol boats were delivered to the ABF between 2012 and 2015 followed by deliveries to the Royal Australian Navy in 2017 and the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard in 2021.
Austal CEO Paddy Gregg said the additional two orders adds to its order book of more than $17.7 billion.
What they said: “We thank the Commonwealth of Australia for its continued trust in Austal and look forward to building on our strong partnerships with hundreds of supply chain partners in the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Australia to deliver these additional vessels for the Australian Border Force,” Gregg said.
