Australian CEOs release advice for businesses on decarbonisation
The news: Fifty leaders from some of Australia's biggest companies have produced some practical advice for other chiefs hoping to cut greenhouse gas emissions from their business operations.
The context: The resource, "written by CEOs for CEOs", has been released ahead of the COP28 climate summit, which kicks off in Dubai on Thursday. The tool is the work of the Climate Leaders Coalition (CLC), a group of cross-sectoral Australian corporate CEOs in support of the Paris Agreement commitments and advancing public decarbonisation targets. The resource recommends investing in the right technical and leadership recruits, among other suggestions for credibly acting on the climate challenge.
What they said: CLC co-chair David Thodey said the resource offered a practical framework for the development of a credible climate transition plan.
"It comes at a time when organisations are facing increased regulatory and mandatory disclosure requirements, which is why we are seeing accelerated demand for such insight," he said.
Thodey said each organisation would follow its own unique journey to slash emissions.
"We saw that businesses are at different stages of transition-maturity and literacy too, meaning there is no one-size-fits-all solution. But that cannot be a barrier to meaningful action."
