Australian government to give additional $100m to Ukraine for military support
The news: The federal government has announced it will provide an additional $100 million to Ukraine for assistance amid the ongoing war with Russia.
The funding is for critical military equipment and capabilities, such as air defence and munitions, and will be delivered in two $50 million tranches over the next 12 months.
The numbers: The funding, which is in partnership with NATO, is on top of $50 million committed to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List in December 2025.
Including this additional funding, Australia’s total contribution to Ukraine tallies up to more than $1.8 billion since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
NATO defence ministers met this week ahead of a summit in Ankara at which Ukraine will be a major point of discussion.
What they said: “What happens in Ukraine matters here in the Indo-Pacific, which is why it is so important for Australia to stay the course and continue to stand with Ukraine until they find peace on their terms,” Defence Minister Richard Marles said in a statement.
“Australia was proud to be the first non-NATO contributor to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, alongside New Zealand,” he said.
“Our ongoing contribution ensures that Ukraine is receiving the support it needs to make a tangible difference in its defence against Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression.”
