The news: The Australian Industry Group, an employer association, and the federal government’s National AI Centre have analysed productivity boosting AI use cases across six companies and highlighted key lessons for adoption.

The context: The report highlights successful cases of AI implementation at Blackmores, George Weston Foods, InfraBuild, ANCA, Dux and ISS Health Services.

The report found that the AI use cases improved workplace safety and accessibility, and enhanced human capability and problem solving. It also noted that AI adoption is successful when driven from the top with leadership that “ensures alignment, governance and effective change management”.

The Australian Industry Group previously gave its support to an OpenAI-commissioned report that anticipates AI could deliver $142 billion of value to the Australian economy per annum by 2030.

A recent business survey undertaken by the Reserve Bank of Australia found that “adoption of AI at an enterprise scale is still at a very early stage and largely for pilot or experimental purposes”. Of the firms surveyed, 40% indicated minimal AI adoption.

What they said: "AI isn't a distant concept — it's here, reshaping how businesses operate, innovate, and care for their people," Australian Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox said.

"From streamlining supply chains to boosting workplace safety, AI is unlocking new levels of productivity and resilience. But with great power comes great responsibility — and Australian companies are showing how to adopt AI thoughtfully, ethically, and in partnership with their people."
