The news: Australian Retirement Trust has generated an average 10% return annually over the 10 years to 30 June, with its high growth accumulation option returning 9.21% in the current financial year.

The context: The superannuation fund is one of Australia’s largest, stating it now manages more than $370 billion in retirement savings, with its high growth investment option ranking as the highest performer in the SuperRating SR Index over the 10 years to 31 May.

Chief investment officer Ian Patrick stated that the fund has deployed an additional $12 billion into private markets over the past year, including $3 billion in domestic real estate, while locking in an additional $12 billion in capital commitments for future years.

What they said: “Unlisted assets play an important role in delivering more consistent returns over time and reducing overall portfolio risk and have been a key contributor to our long term outperformance,” Patrick said.

“We’re seeing better value emerging in private markets as valuations adjust. We remain focused on positioning the portfolio for the future by taking advantage of these opportunities,” he added.
