The news: AustralianSuper chief investment officer and deputy CEO Mark Delaney will step down from his position at the superannuation fund on 30 June 2026.

The context: Delaney has worked with the fund for 25 years. A global search for his successor will take place over the next six months.

Delaney worked alongside former CEO Ian Silk in the establishment of AustralianSuper. He has been deputy CEO and CIO since 1 July 2006, when the fund was created.

He is a former CEO the Superannuation Trust of Australia, which merged with AustralianSuper, and previously held positions at National Mutual/AXA and federal Treasury. He is a director on IFM Investor's Advisory Board.

What they said: "Since the Fund was established in 2006, Mark has overseen the growth in member assets from around $20 billion to more than $400 billion today," said AustralianSuper CEO Paul Schroder.

"Around half that growth was due to investment returns achieved under Mark’s leadership, or around $190 billion," Schroder said.

"Mark has always been a truly member centric investor, his calm, thoughtful and considered approach to everything he does has seen him deliver for members through economic cycles."

Delaney said: "‘We transformed superannuation investing in Australia by becoming an active investor in a range of asset classes and building a globally diversified portfolio so every member can now invest in world class opportunities at scale."
