Axight takes minority stake in La Trobe Financial from Brookfield
The news: Abu Dhabi-based private equity investment manager Axight has acquired a significant minority stake in La Trobe Financial from Brookfield.
The transaction now values La Trobe Financial at $3 billion.
The context: Canadian-based global alternative firm Brookfield, which acquired La Trobe in May 2022, will remain the majority shareholder of the Australian-based alternative asset manager.
Axight is a private equity investment manager focused on investments across the Asia-Pacific region and was established by Lunate, which manages more than USD115 billion ($160 billion) in assets.
La Trobe Financial has grown assets under management from $14 billion to $23 billion over the past four years, according to Brookfield.
What they said: “This transaction reflects our strategy on partnering with high‑quality platforms underpinned by strong fundamentals, resilient business models, outstanding management teams and clear pathways for long‑term value creation,” Axight co-managing partners Mujtaba Hussain and Jerry He said.
