Bapcor rallies after new CEO appointment

More news: Bapcor shares have rallied at midday after the appointment of its new chief executive officer and managing director Chris Wilesmith, effective 14 January.

Bapcor was the top performing stock across the ASX 200, which saw shares rallied 7.04% to $1.90 as of 12:34pm AEDT.

Bapcor appoints Chris Wilesmith as the new CEO

The news: Bapcor has appointed Chris Wilesmith as its chief executive officer and managing director, effective 14 January. He will be supported by outgoing CEO Angus McKay during a transitional period, the company said.

The context: The C-Suite change follows Angus McKay's resignation on 18 December after he had previously announced plans to step down from the board while retaining his executive role.

Chris Wilesmith was previously a CEO for Jaycar Electronics, Mitre 10 NZ and served 13 years in the Super Retail Group executive team. He was also a managing director for Supercheap Auto for seven years.

What they said: "Chris brings deep and broad automotive aftermarket experience to Bapcor. His previous senior roles in growing businesses in each of Bapcor's segments will be critical to take our businesses into their next phase of driving growth and performance," Bapcor chair Lachlan Edwards said.
