The news: Exchange traded funds (ETF) provider Betashares has agreed to buy finance podcast Equity Mates for an undisclosed fee.

The context: Betashares, which recently reached $50 billion in assets under management, said it will also commit a "further significant financial investment" to help the companies reach more Australians with educational material to improve financial literacy and investment knowledge.

Betashares said the investment, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals, will help Equity Mates accelerate a range of growth initiatives, including expanding its content offering, enhancing community engagement, and building new educational tools.

Equity Mates co-founders Bryce Leske and Alec Renehan will continue to lead the business and retain full editorial independence, the companies said.

What they said: “For nearly 15 years, we have prided ourselves on our ability to consistently raise the bar through the provision of educational materials about long term wealth creation opportunities for Australians at all stages of their investing journey,” said Betashares founder and CEO Alex Vynokur.

“We deeply believe in the power of education to help Australians make smarter financial decisions and teaming up with Equity Mates demonstrates our desire to double down on the provision of engaging content and materials to further this goal.”

Equity Mates co-founder Renehan commented: “We’re excited to team up with Betashares and together build out new content, educational material and practical tools to help all Australians take control of their financial futures and explore the possibilities of investing.”
