Block adds Afterpay co-founder Anthony Eisen to board
The news: Afterpay co-founder and former co-CEO Anthony Eisen has been appointed to the board of dual-listed fintech firm Block.
The numbers: The appointment will see the size of Block's board increase from nine to 10 directors.
The context: Eisen co-founded Melbourne-based Afterpay in November 2014 and served as its co-CEO until its $39 billion acquisition by Block in 2022.
He then served as co-lead of Afterpay until November 2024 and as a consultant to aid in the transition of his duties until his election to the Block board.
Eisen also currently serves on the board of the Technology Council of Australia.
Block, which also owns Square, Cash App, Spiral and TIDAL, said Eisen was selected for the board due to his financial services and fintech expertise, specifically in buy now, pay later services, and experience as one of the co-founders of Afterpay.
