BrainChip licences IP to Korean semiconductor company ASICLAND
The news: Computer processing chip company BrainChip has entered an IP distribution license agreement with South Korean semiconductor solutions provider ASICLAND.
The context: BrainChip has granted a non-exclusive worldwide licence for “neuromorphic AI IP portfolio” that allows ASICLAND to integrate the technology into system-on-chip designs for multiple customers.
BrainChip touts its Akida processing technology as being based on “neuromorphic principles to mimic the human brain”.
ASICLAND can now obtain multiple evaluation licences to enable production runs for customer prototyping and testing. The evaluation licences may be converted to production licences upon approval from BrainChip and the payment of an additional fee.
BrainChip will receive ongoing volume-based royalties on sales of licensed products.
What they said: “Partnering with ASICLAND extends BrainChip’s reach into a broader range of custom silicon programs,” BrainChip CEO Sean Hehir said.
“ASICLAND’s SoC design capabilities and customer relationships make them a strong partner for accelerating Akida adoption across multiple end markets, while maintaining the integrity of our IP and long-term royalty model.”
