Business turnover rebounds further in September: ABS

The news: Business turnover continued to bounce back in September, with 10 of 13 industries reporting a boost in revenue on the month before. In August, only eight industries posted a turnover increase.

The numbers: Information media and the telecommunications industries recorded the biggest increase, lifting revenues 3.2% after a 1.8% fall in August. Mining turnover rose 2.8%, but was down more than 15% on the same time last year. Turnover for construction businesses lifted 2.6%, led by heavy and civil engineering construction as firms work through infrastructure project pipelines.

The context: Three industries — manufacturing; professional, scientific and technical services; and arts and recreation services — made less than in August, with turnover falling 1.3%, 0.9% and 0.3% respectively.
