The news: Bunnings landlord BWP Trust has announced the retirement of its chair Tony Howarth, with current director Fiona Harris picked to succeed him in February 2026.

The context: Howarth was first appointed to the BWP board in 2012 and was named chair in 2022. Harris, who currently chairs BWP's audit and risk committee, also joined the board in 2012.

The real estate investment trust has also appointed longtime Wesfarmers executive Tim Bult as a non-executive director, effective 1 December. He is currently managing director of Wesfarmers' industrial and safety unit.

Wesfarmers holds 23.45% of BWP shares. In June, BWP signed an agreement with Wesfarmers to internalise management away from the retail and agriculture conglomerate.

What they said: "On behalf of the BWP board I acknowledge and thank Tony for his significant contribution, strong stewardship and effective leadership of the board," said Harris.

"Tony is leaving BWP well positioned following the recent internalisation and lease reset and extension transaction."
