The news: Capricorn Metals has announced that an aggravated assault charge against chief executive Paul Criddle has been dismissed in court, but it says he has resigned from his position "to focus on personal priorities".

The gold miner said executive chairman Mark Clark has assumed CEO responsibilities and that Criddle would be welcomed back to the company when ready to resume work.

The context: Criddle joined the company as COO in May 2024 before being appointed CEO in February 2025.

Capricorn announced to the ASX in late April that he'd pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated assault, triggering a sharp drop in the company's share price.

Should Criddle wish to return, Capricorn intends to negotiate a senior role for him leading the company’s project development, subject to its usual employment conditions.
