CEFC invests $6m in electric trucks to be leased by Woolworths
The news: The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) has invested $6 million in electric fleet business Zenobē to enable the deployment of 60 electric trucks that will be leased by Woolworths to make home deliveries.
The context: The $6 million investment is a part of a broader $19 million project funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Zenobē which also includes the deployment of an off-site multi-user charging hub for electric trucks in Mascot, New South Wales.
The hub will be used by Woolworths and other electric truck users. Of the CEFC-backed trucks, 20 will be based at the Mascot depot with the rest dispersed across New South Wales and Victoria.
Woolworths is aiming to transition its home delivery truck fleet to electric vehicles by 2030.
The CEFC has also previously made an equity investment in Zenobē.
What they said: “Investing in Zenobē’s shared infrastructure model will allow major logistics and freight operators and users to transition to electric vehicles without the significant capital expenditure and complexity associated with the uptake of BETs,” CEFC head of infrastructure Julia Hinwood said.
“It is essential to address the finance gap present in electrification of heavy fleet transport to accelerate the decarbonisation requirements within the sector.”
