Challenger appoints John Somerville and David Whittle to board
The news: Challenger has appointed John Somerville and David Whittle as independent non-executive directors of Challenger and Challenger Life, as JoAnne Stephenson steps down from the board.
The context: Australia's largest annuities provider said Somerville and Whittle will join the boards on 17 June while Stephenson will retire on 30 June.
Somerville was chief executive and managing director of Slater and Gordon for six years and prior to that spent 20 years at KPMG, where he led the advisory business in Australia and Asia Pacific.
Whittle founded and is an executive director of Lexer, a global software company specialising in customer experience, and is currently a non-executive director for Metcash and Michael Hill.
Stephenson has been an independent non-executive director of the board since 2012. She is chair of the group people and remuneration committee and a member of the group risk, group audit, independent and related party, and nomination committees.
