Citi nabs Paul Buys from Canaccord to replace retiring Paul McTaggart

The news: Citi has poached Paul Buys from Canaccord Genuity to be its new head of research for Australia and New Zealand.

The context: Buys succeeds Paul McTaggart, who will retire from his 30-year career in sell-side research at the end of the year.

Buys is currently head of research at Canaccord and prior to that was deputy head of APAC securities research at Credit Suisse.

Citi has also hired:

• Christian Ford from Jefferies as director, equities high touch execution;
• Andrew Bruce from JP Morgan as director, head of low touch execution;
• Nicolas Lebon from Credit Agricole CIB as director, corporate solutions group; and
• Dan Smith has been promoted as head of Australia, prime finance in the equities business.
