The news: Citi has appointed long-serving executive John McLean as head of equity capital markets and global asset managers for Australia and New Zealand.

The context: McLean is currently head of global asset managers, Citi's financial sponsors business in Asia Pacific. He will relocate from Singapore to Sydney for the role.

McLean replaces Rob Jahrling, who will leave the investment bank to pursue another opportunity after three years in the role and 15 years at Citi.

What they said: "John’s experience in Asia leading the global asset managers business combined with his prior experience leading the ECM business in Australia, makes him the ideal person to lead our growth plans in these areas into the future," said Mark Woodruff, CEO for Citi Australia.

McLean commented: "There is significant opportunity in both private capital markets and ECM across Australia and New Zealand and I look forward to growing the team and delivering for our clients."
