The news: Cleanaway Waste Management has reported a "significant fire" at its liquid waste processing facility at St Marys, New South Wales.

The numbers: Cleanaway shares edged down 0.4% to $2.69 by 10:50am AEDT.

The context: The waste management company said that all of its employees and contractors are safe, with no injuries reported.

However, it noted that the fire has resulted in the closure of the site, which remains under the control of emergency authorities.

Cleanaway said it plans to investigate into the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage at the site. It is currently working with regulatory authorities on clean-up activities and working with affected customers to find alternative processing facilities for materials that would have been received at the site.

Cleanaway will provide an update on its response to the fire, as well as its potential financial impact, at its first-half results on 19 February.
