The news: Coca-Cola CFO John Murphy said consumer demand remains uneven, as the company tries to adapt products for budget-conscious consumers and navigates uncertainty in the Middle East.

What they said: “The outlook...of the Middle East situation is still not clear,” Murphy said at the Deutsche Bank consumer conference in Paris on Thursday.

He added that the conflict “is going to be a topic on all of our agenda as we go into 2027.”

Murphy said Coca-Cola is navigating the fallout of the US-Iran war “not perfectly well, but without fear, without trepidation.”

The context: Earnings from major US retailers have suggested consumer spending is resilient, Reuters reported, but buyers are spending more selectively, as the US-Iran conflict pushes inflation.

In response, Coca-Cola is working on a mix of products, including smaller single-serve options as well as larger premium offerings, to cater to a broader range of buyers.
