The news: Commonwealth Bank has appointed Victoria Ledda as group chief information officer and Rodrigo Castillo as group chief technology officer, effective 1 July.

The context: Since the departure of Gavin Munroe, who had been jointly serving as group executive technology and group CIO, Ledda and Castillo have been serving in interim executive tech leadership roles.

Ledda was interim CIO business technology while Castillo was CIO central technology.

Ledda has been at the Commonwealth Bank for more than four and a half years, last serving as CIO retail and wealth banking. She is also an executive board member for CommSec and sits on an advisory board for Mastercard. Before joining the Commonwealth Bank she spent more than 15 years at Goldman Sachs.

Meanwhile, Castillo has been at the Commonwealth Bank since July 2023 and is on the board of CBA India. He previously spent more than 15 years at HSBC.

What they said: “The pace of change in technology and AI means we need focused, hands-on leadership across both business-aligned technology delivery and the enterprise technology foundations that support the Group,” Commonwealth Bank CEO Matt Comyn said.

“Victoria and Rodrigo bring complementary strengths and this model is designed to help CBA accelerate technology delivery, strengthen accountability and reflects CBA’s continued focus on delivering safe, resilient and reliable technology for customers.”
