The news: Consumer confidence rose 3.1 points to 75.9 last week, lifting the four-week moving average to 72.6 points and marking the second consecutive weekly gain.

The context: ANZ economist Madeline Dunk stated that consumer confidence is at its highest level since early March, with the index trending upward by 17.1 points from its recent low of 58.8 points in late March.

She added that more households are feeling positive about their financial conditions and the economic outlook, with the 12-month outlook for personal finances lifting to its highest level since February.

The rise coincided with a decline in the unemployment rate alongside easing petrol prices, which contributed to a decline in inflation expectations.
