The news: New Zealand electricity retailer Contact Energy has appointed Manawa Energy chair Deion Campbell to its board, ahead of the proposed merger between the two companies.
The context: Deion is the former CEO of green energy supplier Tilt Renewables, and previously spent 15 years in the generation division of Manawa, then called Trustpower. He is also a director of Origin Energy and Longroad Energy.
Deion, who will fill a casual vacancy on Contact's board, will stand for election at the company's annual shareholder meeting in September.
Contact shareholders approved the proposed acquisition of its majority owned electricity company Manawa earlier this month. Implementation of the scheme of arrangement is expected to occur on 11 July, following High Court approval.
