CSL and ResMed lead healthcare down, echoing Wall St move
The news: Blood products specialist CSL and sleep apnoea product company ResMed have led a rout on Australian healthcare stocks, shedding more than 5% each. The medical product companies were among the ASX's biggest losers on Thursday.
The numbers: CSL was trading 5.8% lower at $239.50, while ResMed shares were down 5.4% to $22.13 at 15:10pm AEDT. By sector, Australian health care stocks are down 4.32%. Overnight, NYSE-listed kidney dialysis provider Davita lost 16.9%.
The context: The declines came after a trial of diabetes and weight-loss drug Ozempic on patients with type-2 diabetes was halted prematurely after it met pre-specified efficacy requirements. The price of Ozempic creator Novo Nordisk jumped 4.9% overnight.
CSL's move also came a day after roughly a quarter of shareholders lodged a protest vote against executive remuneration at yesterday's AGM.
