Defence awards more than $7b in base services contracts

The news: Downer EDI, Ventia and Service Stream have been awarded contracts collectively worth $7.35 billion by the Department of Defence to deliver long-term base services as part of its base services transformation program.

The numbers: Downer EDI’s contract is worth $3.05 billion, Ventia’s contract is worth $2.7 billion and Service Streams contract is worth $1.6 billion.

Commencing in February 2026, each contract will run over an initial term of six years and include two extension options between one and three years each, but with a maximum contract term of 10 years.

The context: Under Downer’s property and asset services contract, the infrastructure and engineering company company will deliver “base and estate facilities maintenance operations, aerodrome operations, land management, training area and range management and integration services” across New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland.

Service Stream will deliver similar property and asset services across South Australia and the Northern Territory while Ventia will deliver similar services in Western Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.

Ventia will also deliver living and working services in the Northern Territory, Victoria and Tasmania.
