The news: The Federal Court has ordered that Dell Australia pay $10 million for misleading customers about the price of monitors that could be bundled with desktop, laptop and notebook purchases. Dell had earlier admitted to misleading customers by inflating the 'strikethrough' price on the monitors, in proceedings brought by the ACCC.

The numbers: More than 5,300 monitors were sold to consumers with overstated discounts.

The context: Dell Australia is a NSW-headquartered, wholly owned subsidiary of US company Dell Technologies, which operates globally mostly through its website. Monday's court order came after the ACCC initiated proceedings against Dell Australia in November 2022.
