The news: Domino's Pizza has poached McDonald's executive Andrew Gregory as its new group CEO and managing director.

The context: Gregory will start with Domino's "no later than 5 August", the company said. Prior to his most recent role as McDonald's senior vice president of global franchising, development and delivery, Gregory served as MD and CEO of McDonald's ANZ and senior VP and chief support officer in Japan.

Domino's has been searching for a permanent group CEO since Mark van Dyck's surprise resignation last July after only eight months in the role.

What they said: "Following a period of transition, the board is pleased to appoint a global CEO with deep [quick restaurant service] experience and a strong understanding of franchised business models," said executive chairman Jack Cowin.

"Andrew is a highly regarded operator and leader, and we are confident he is well placed to lead Domino's through our next phase of performance improvement and growth."
