DoorDash splashes over $7b to buy Deliveroo and SevenRooms
The news: Food delivery provider DoorDash is splashing billions in efforts chase global expansion, as it announced successive purchases on Deliveroo and SevenRooms Inc on Tuesday.
The numbers: DoorDash said it will buy UK-based Deliveroo for around £2.9 billion ($6 billion), offering 180 pence in cash per share. The offer is a 29% premium to Deliveroo’s closing price on Monday.
The US company said it will pay all-cash USD1.2 billion for SevenRooms, a platform that competes with OpenTable and Resy, and boasts over 13,000 vendors.
While DoorDash shares plunged 7.5% in premarket trading the company pared losses by early afternoon in New York. Deliveroo shares were up 2.3% by 2:00pm in London.
The context: DoorDash released the sales announcements alongside its first quarter results for 2025, which saw it post a strong orders outlook and a better-than-expected gross order value for Q1.
Both boards have reviewed and approved the Deliveroo transaction which is expected to close in Q4 this year. DoorDash said that the SevenRooms purchase should close in the second have of the year pending regulatory approvals, and the two companies will continue operating independently until then.
DoorDash added that upon closing the SevenRooms deal, it plans to invest in sales and product features to expand the company’s reach and build upon its suite of operational and marketing solutions.
